Tybaldt Ulrich

started dancing in 1992, while studying for a degree in Ethnomusicology at the University of North Texas. For 6 years, I studied and performed music from Ghana, Trinidad, Cuba, Brazil, India, and Indonesia, and went dancing way too much. I fell in love with Argentine Tango, Salsa, and then Lindy Hop, finding my personality most suited to the Swing dances.

I've worked for an Arthur Murray styled Ballroom Studio, been an Adjunct Faculty member at UNT, and toured with Swing Dance America, presenting the many regional styles of swing across country. I met my wife in that company, and we became competitive partners in WCS, Hustle, and Carolina Shag (basically swing with shines).

We directed teams, taught across the country and worked independently and through Stepping Out. Now parents, we do a little less traveling and I've had a little more time to refine our teaching to create systems for learning our dances. I'm now a board member of IHDA, a hustle organization and have created their new guidelines for Hustle Pro/Am competitions, and am running for Gotham, a WCS club in NYC.
