8 years ago a friend took me to my first salsa club. Not knowing what to expect, I stood and watched the dancers in amazement. The complex yet graceful movement of the dancers to the intricate beats of the music is what sparked my curiosity. I went to salsa clubs and pretended to know what I was doing on the dance floor, but that didn’t last long. I started to take free lessons and watched instructional videos. Then one day at Nell’s nightclub in NYC one dancer captured my attention (and it wasn’t because he was the only one wearing a sleeveless t-shirt with jogging pants or that he looked Filipino). It was his unique style that intrigued me the most. I soon found out that he was a dance instructor and I had to attend his class. That’s all it took…I was hooked!

With an undergraduate degree in Psychology / Fine Arts and a career in Medicine, I needed an outlet to relieve my stress. Salsa offers a contrast to the intensity and rigors I face everyday in the Emergency Department and provides a good balance in my life.
It gives me something to look forward to and helps me get through every day. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the PCD Dance Company and look forward to growing not only as a dancer but also as a member of something great.
