My name is Brian Salazar and I am originally from La Paz, Bolivia (South America). I came to the United States when I was 10 years old and I lived in California for most of my life. With an Engineering and Business background, I came to New York City in 2000 to work as a consultant for Accenture. After a couple of years as a consultant, I switched careers and became a Mathematics teacher.
I am known for having a very active lifestyle. Besides teaching, my other ‘for-profit’ occupations include coaching a boys’ travel soccer team, private tutoring, teaching Latin dance and bartending. My other activities include playing soccer for a competitive soccer club and going to school for a Master’s in Traditional Oriental Medicine. Last but not least, I have been dancing with the Piel Canela Dancers since 2002.
I developed my passion for dancing salsa while in college and danced ‘On-1’ for about 4 years before coming to NYC and being introduced to ‘On-2’. I started taking classes with Joe Burgos in December 2001 and two months later had the honor of join the Piel Canela Dance Company. Being the most senior member in the company, I’ve had the privilege of seeing the company grow and develop over the past 8 years into what it is today. I am very proud of being a part of PCD because it is the only company that caters to everyone by providing such diverse opportunities within the organization. To me, PCD is not just a dance company, it’s THE BEST dance company… and it’s a family.
